I’ve been pondering on the thought of what my next post should be. I wanted it to be something of meaning and substance; something worth the read. Truthfully I have been thinking about it so much that four weeks have passed by. With that being said, here’s my thoughts on overthinking.
It’s something we do each day of our lives unconsciously, every single one of us. From the moments in grade school when you had to get picked for a team during physical education. To the times when you weren’t sure how long you should wait to call someone back after a date. And taking it present day where if you’re like me, wondering if you are doing enough.
Now of course, we all are unique individuals of our own and give energy to different aspects of our lives depending on our environments. However overthinking rules our mind the same and in result, sometimes our lives. Whether you notice it or not sometimes we let our thoughts consume us and it takes away from the present moment. It literally robs you from your own life. We spend so much time trying to figure out how to please others or if we are putting enough action towards the life we want to create that we forget to live in that life. It is so easy to forget the importance of living life in the now and not so much in the past or worrying about the future.
For instance, the other day I went to my local grocery store, went to the produce section and saw they had a sale on bowls of pineapples. The sale was “buy one get one free” and you can pick between a small or large sized bowl. Stay with me here; so I go for the smaller sized bowl but there was only one left. Naturally, I stood there upset that there was only one and proceeded to get mad at a make-believe person I made in my head who decided to grab an odd number of bowls. Stubbornly I turned the corner of the section and behold an entire section of small sized bowls. I laughed at myself instantly and felt so silly for taking the energy to get upset when all I had to do was turn around the corner.
Maybe you can use that as a metaphor for your life, sometimes we just need to see things from a different point of view. As someone who was diagnosed with panic disorder you can already assume the amount of overthinking that happens in a day. I’ve been learning how to stop overthinking and just take a step back. Instead of the “what if this goes wrong” turning it to the “what if it goes right”. It takes sometime to get used to but try it, even if its just for a day. Once we let go of the unconscious thoughts of worrying; we allow the positive focus to become more clear. Our thoughts become our reality. I want you to read that again, our thoughts become our reality. The actions we make today create the person we become tomorrow.
Imagine giving the same amount of energy we give to overthinking, to something positive and productive. Your world will literally shift gears entirely into the life you want to create. The life that you are so worried about making it perfect. My favorite reminder in this life is nothing is perfect; there is no good, there is no bad, there just is. So, what have you not started because you were too occupied overthinking? Now is the time to step back, breathe and turn the corner. Ultimately anything you want in this life can be yours, don’t overthink it and just do. I promise it will make a difference.
With love and light xx
